COLD PROCESSED SOAPS

1. What is Cold Process Soap?

CP Soap is the result of a chemical reaction that occurs when an alkali (lye) and a fat or oil (base) combine together. This reaction is called saponification.

2. What's in your handmade soap?

Botanicá Aromatherapy Handmade Soaps are made the old-fashioned way from scratch, using excellent ingredients like olive and other vegetable oils, shea butter, cocoa butter, milk, herbs, plant essential oils and extracts. And yes, it does contain glycerin, because whenever you make soap, glycerin is produced as a natural by-product of the chemical reaction between oils and lye.

3. Where do you source your ingredients from?

Reliable suppliers from Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, India, Australia, France, Spain, Germany, USA and UK.

4. What other ingredients do you use in your soap?

Depending on the type of soap, we use different ingredients to cater to different skin types. We will indicate the suitable skin types and ingredients on every soap label and product page. Do check out for that before you cart out the product.

5. Is your soap organic?

No, if I used exclusively organic oils I would not be able to price my products competitively. But all of my soaps are made with food-grade oils and are genuine made-from-scratch cold process soaps.

6. Why is the soap dissolving so fast?

CP Soap naturally wants to dissolve. When left to sit in water, the soap will swell, become soft, and develop a jelly like exterior. In order to get the most out of your soap, allow it to dry between uses. Do not leave it in a location where it will have a constant stream of water flowing over it such as near the shower head. Place the soap at the opposite end of the tub to let it dry out between showers. When bathing, do not leave the soap to float around the tub and at the sink, be sure your soap dish is draining.

7. What is Melt and Pour Soap?

What most people call glycerin soap is actually a prepared detergent or soap base clarified with alcohol and sugar. That kind of soap is also known as "melt & pour" soap because the artisan can melt it, scent it, and pour it into molds. Some of it can mimic traditional soap and it can be very artistic.

8. Sometimes your soap looks different than the pictures listed, Is that the same soap?

Yes, we will always do our best to keep our recipes as close to the last made batch (unless improved) after all it is homemade. Colors, textures & scents may slightly vary from one batch to another.

9. Is it suitable for everyone?

Cold-processed soaps are suitable for everyone. However still look out for our ingredient labels as different people has different reaction to the ingredients like essential oils.

10. Will there be allergic reaction?

Unless you are allergic to specific ingredients used in our soap (e.g. to one of the essential oils or herbs), there should not be any adverse reaction. Some users may, however, experience some sort of allergic reaction initially. This may be due to prolonged exposure to chemicals causing an imbalance in the skin condition. The skin is still adjusting and beginning to heal itself, thus the imbalance in secretion. Do give it some time, remember the skin takes 28 days to regenerate itself.

11. What effects will there be?

Depending on the type of soap used, there will be a range of effects, but definitely for the better! For a start, your skin should feel clean but never tight and squeaky. Spots and blemishes should slowly disappear and oil secretion should become balanced. Certain soaps can even help to combat skin infections such as ringworm and eczema. However, all this cannot be achieved overnight but you should see some improvement by your first bar.

12. I have sensitive skin and can't use most soaps. Will I be able to use yours?

Yes, most likely you will be able to use our soaps because they are incredibly mild and gentle. Most commercial soaps are detergent based, using lots of synthetic ingredients, and that's what usually causes skin reactions. That's very different from how we make our soaps. We don't use any artificial colorants, hardeners, latherers or preservatives. If you have allergies to fragrance, then we suggest you either select scents derived from 100% natural 'Essential Oils' or an unscented soap. Over years, we made about over 100 versions soaps that using essential oils, and also make an unscented version of every soap we made, just for people like you.

13. What's the best way for someone with sensitive skin to try your products?

We recommend that you start with our unscented soaps and test yourself. Select the moisture level you need, and do a test. If you are pleased with our unscented soap, but really want to have a scented soap, then try one of our soaps scented with a natural essential oil.
